What Is the GLOCAL Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?
The GLOCAL Erasmus Mundus Scholarship funds the Global Markets, Local Creativities (GLOCAL) Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD). This two-year programme combines expertise from seven universities across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Students study at multiple partner institutions, gaining interdisciplinary knowledge in globalisation, economic development, and local innovation systems.
The scholarship is designed for international students from all countries, including Zimbabwe and other SADC nations, who demonstrate academic excellence and commitment to understanding the interplay between global markets and local creative economies.

The GLOCAL consortium comprises seven universities:

Scholarship Benefits
The Erasmus Mundus GLOCAL Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support:
- Full tuition fee coverage, including programme deposits
- Monthly stipend of €1,400 for the entire 24-month programme (total €33,600)
- Full insurance coverage (health, travel, accident)
- Optional contribution to travel and installation costs — intended to assist with visas, residence permits, and temporary accommodation
The monthly allowance is paid throughout the study period, including during mobility periods at partner universities.
Eligibility Requirements
Academic Requirements
- Completed bachelor’s degree or equivalent before programme start
- Country-specific GPA requirements apply — consult the University of Glasgow’s guidance for your qualification
- Relevant academic background in social sciences, economics, business, development studies, or related fields
Language Requirements
- English language proficiency required for non-native speakers
- Specific test scores and exemptions detailed on the University of Glasgow admissions page
Additional Criteria
- Applicants must not have previously received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship
- Must secure conditional or unconditional offer from University of Glasgow before scholarship deadline
- Open to applicants from all nationalities, including Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and other African countries
Required Documents
Prepare the following for your application:
- Degree certificate and official English translation
- Official academic transcript(s) with English translation
- Two supporting reference letters on headed paper
- English language proficiency proof
- Scanned photo page of passport
- CV (Europass format preferred, not mandatory)
- Erasmus Mundus Scholarship application form
- Separate personal statement (for self-funded applicants only)
Critical: All documents must be submitted by the scholarship deadline. Applications marked “holding for documents” at the deadline will not be considered.
Application Process
Follow these steps to apply:
- Apply to the GLOCAL programme through the University of Glasgow’s online application system
- Indicate scholarship interest within the same application — programme and scholarship applications are combined
- Submit all required documents by January 7, 2027
- Receive offer decision — conditional or unconditional offer required for scholarship consideration
- Consortium review — GLOCAL consortium ranks all eligible scholarship applications
- Results announced April 2027
A reserve list is maintained. If awarded candidates withdraw, the next eligible reserve candidate is contacted.
