Core Responsibilities

The Operations and Maintenance Technician executes safe, efficient and reliable production operations and first-line maintenance activities. Key accountabilities include:

  • Operating oil and gas facilities, wells and associated assets in accordance with approved procedures and Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) requirements
  • Executing routine and minor non-routine production operations, first-line maintenance, equipment isolation, depressurisation and reinstatement
  • Carrying out preventive, predictive, corrective and routine first-line maintenance on plant, process equipment and associated systems
  • Inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, diagnosing and rectifying equipment and process faults
  • Performing routine equipment servicing, installation, commissioning, calibration, adjustment and functional testing
  • Monitoring plant and equipment performance, collecting field data, and identifying potential failures
  • Measuring, validating and accurately reporting production volumes
  • Diagnosing and responding to plant upsets and implementing approved corrective actions
  • Interpreting technical drawings, schematics, manuals, classification drawings and instrument loop drawings
  • Participating in planned shutdowns, turnarounds, maintenance campaigns and equipment overhauls
  • Ensuring all work complies with Permit-to-Work requirements, approved procedures and HSSE standards
  • Conducting Unsafe Act/Unsafe Condition audits and implementing corrective actions
  • Maintaining accurate records of production, maintenance activities, equipment condition, faults, repairs and materials used
  • Collaborating with engineers, supervisors, operators, contractors and technical personnel

Eligibility Requirements

Education and Qualifications

  • Ordinary National Diploma (OND/ND), Full Technological Certificate, Advanced Technical Diploma, relevant trade qualification or equivalent
  • Qualification must be in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, Electronics, Sciences or another relevant technical discipline
  • Relevant technical certification or professional qualification is an added advantage

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in technical maintenance, field operations and/or control room operations
  • Experience must be within an industrial, manufacturing, energy, oil and gas or similar operating environment
  • Upstream production operations experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, manufacturing or industrial maintenance sectors is an added advantage

Technical Competencies Required

  • Competence in relevant technical discipline and assigned equipment
  • Understanding of preventive, corrective and first-line maintenance practices
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and process failures and contribute to root-cause analysis
  • Competence in Permit-to-Work, task risk assessment and safe isolation practices
  • Ability to interpret operating manuals, technical drawings, procedures, work packs and method statements
  • Ability to complete operational, maintenance and integrity records accurately
  • Good understanding of HSSE requirements, safety-critical equipment and operations management systems
