- Category A: Students currently enrolled in a recognised secondary school in Nigeria
- Category B: Students currently enrolled in a recognised Nigerian tertiary institution OR serving NYSC members
Exclusions: Employees of PenCom (National Pension Commission), competition judges, direct administrators, and their immediate dependants are ineligible where conflicts of interest may arise.

Originality Rules
Essays must be original work created specifically for this competition. Plagiarism results in disqualification. Quotations and factual references must be properly acknowledged. The organisers use plagiarism screening and may request oral explanations from shortlisted entrants.

Selection Process

- Independent scoring by at least three judges per shortlisted entry

Important Notes for SADC Applicants
This competition is exclusively for Nigerian citizens enrolled in Nigerian institutions or serving in NYSC. Applicants from Zimbabwe and other SADC countries are not eligible unless they meet these Nigerian residency and enrollment requirements. SADC students interested in essay competitions should explore national writing contests in their home countries or regional competitions open to African youth.
