Eligibility Requirements

Individual Organisation Grants

  • Must be registered not-for-profit civil society or creative organisation in an eligible Commonwealth Foundation member country
  • Minimum three years of registration and operation
  • At least three years’ demonstrable experience relevant to the proposed project and strategic impact areas
  • Significant experience working in the communities where the project will be delivered
  • Project must be implemented at minimum in the applicant’s country of registration; multi-country projects require strong local participation in each implementation country
  • Average annual income over past two years must be less than £2.5 million
  • Requested grant must not exceed 70% of total annual income, averaged over past two years
  • Organisations currently implementing a Commonwealth Foundation grant or awaiting final payment on a completed grant are ineligible

Collective Action Grants

  • Must advance at least one strategic impact area: freedom of expression, economic inclusion, or climate and environmental justice
  • Must demonstrate how gender and intersectionality inform design and will be integrated throughout implementation
  • Creative advocacy approaches are welcomed

Creative Organisation Requirements

Creative organisations applying for Individual Organisation Grants, and creative organisations or collectives applying for Collective Action Grants, must submit a small selection of previous or current work demonstrating their creative practice and relevance to the proposed project.
