Program Overview
The Tyler Prize Student Ambassador 2027 is a competitive leadership opportunity for university students passionate about environmental solutions. Selected ambassadors represent the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement—one of the most prestigious international awards in environmental science—by promoting laureates’ work and engaging their own communities in global environmental discourse.
This is not a traditional scholarship with tuition funding. Instead, it offers professional development, exclusive access to environmental leaders, and platform-building opportunities that can significantly strengthen academic and career trajectories for students from Zimbabwe, SADC, and across Africa.

What Student Ambassadors Do
Ambassadors commit to a year of active engagement with the Tyler Prize community. Responsibilities include:
- Social Media Advocacy: Promote Tyler Prize Laureates’ achievements across personal and institutional channels
- Event Participation: Join live events, Q&A sessions, and exclusive conversations with environmental leaders
- Content Creation: Produce blog posts, photos, and videos sharing unique perspectives for the Tyler Prize platform
- Community Representation: Serve as the Tyler Prize voice in local communities and academic networks
Program Benefits
Direct Engagement with Global Leaders
Ambassadors interact directly with the 2027 Tyler Prize Laureate(s)—scientists and advocates recognized for groundbreaking environmental contributions—plus past laureates and other environmental leaders. For African students, this creates rare access to decision-makers typically unreachable from the continent.

Global Network Building
Ambassadors join a worldwide community of peers dedicated to environmental progress. Approximately half of each cohort comes from USC; remaining spots are competitively open to international applicants including strong representation from Africa.
Public Recognition
Ambassadors are featured on the Tyler Prize website and social media channels, creating visible credentials for future academic and professional applications.
Alumni Association Membership
After successful completion, ambassadors join the Student Ambassador Alumni Association with ongoing exclusive opportunities to connect with scientists, communicators, and professionals in the Tyler Prize network.

Strategic Value for African Students
While this program does not provide direct financial support for tuition or living expenses, its value lies in:
- Credential Building: Association with a prestigious international environmental prize enhances CVs for future scholarship applications
- Network Access: Connections to laureates and alumni can lead to research collaborations, mentorship, and recommendation letters
- Skills Development: Training in science communication addresses a critical gap in many African academic programs
- Visibility: Platform to highlight African environmental challenges and solutions to global audiences
Students from Zimbabwe and SADC should consider this program complementary to funding-focused scholarships, using the ambassador year to strengthen applications for fully funded graduate programs.
