Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 October 2026

This notice explains what personal data Scholarships Africa (scholarships.co.zw) collects
about you, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have over it.
It is written to meet the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and we apply the
same standard to every visitor, wherever you are.

1. Who we are and how to contact us

Scholarships Africa, which operates the website scholarships.co.zw, is the data controller responsible for
the personal data described in this notice.

For any question about this notice, or to exercise any of the rights set out in
section 10, contact us at privacy@scholarships.co.zw. We aim to reply to
every request within 30 days.

2. What personal data we collect

  • Technical data — IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, language and the pages you view, together with the date and time of each visit.
  • Subscription data — the email address you give us for job alerts or our newsletter, and whether you opened or clicked a message we sent.
  • Correspondence — the content of any message you send us by email or through a contact form.

We do not deliberately collect special category data — such as health, religion, political opinion, ethnicity or trade union membership — and ask that you do not send us any.

3. How we collect it

  • Directly from you — when you register, subscribe or contact us.
  • Automatically — through cookies and similar technologies as you use the site. See the cookie section below.

4. Our legal basis for processing

We only process personal data where we have a lawful basis to do so:

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for optional cookies, for marketing messages and job alerts, and for anything else we ask you to opt in to. You may withdraw consent at any time, which does not affect processing already carried out on that basis.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to keep the site secure, prevent fraudulent or abusive postings, understand which content is useful and improve the service. We balance those interests against your rights, and you may object as described below.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — where we must keep or disclose information to comply with a law or a lawful request.

5. How we use your personal data

  • Sending job alerts or a newsletter where you asked for them.
  • Responding to your questions and support requests.
  • Detecting, preventing and investigating fraud, spam, scraping and abuse.
  • Measuring which pages are used, so we can improve them.
  • Displaying advertising that funds the site.

6. Who we share your personal data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:

  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — who store and serve the site, and a content delivery and security network (Cloudflare, Inc.) that filters malicious traffic before it reaches us.
  • Google Analytics (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd) — audience measurement. We ask Google to shorten IP addresses where that option is available.
  • Google AdSense (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd) — serves the advertising on this site and may use cookies or device identifiers to select and measure ads. You can review and change your advertising settings at Google My Ad Center.
  • Email delivery providers — who send the alerts and newsletters you subscribed to.
  • Authorities and advisers — where we are legally required to disclose information, or need to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.

7. International transfers

Some of the providers named above process data outside your country, including in
the United States. Where personal data is transferred out of the European Economic
Area, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, on an
adequacy decision where one applies, or on the provider’s certification under an
approved transfer framework. You may request a copy of the safeguard we rely on by
writing to privacy@scholarships.co.zw.

8. How we keep your data secure

The site is served over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to administrative
systems is restricted to the people who need it and protected by individual accounts
and strong authentication. Traffic is filtered by a web application firewall to block
malicious requests. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but if a breach
occurs that is likely to put your rights at risk, we will notify the relevant
supervisory authority and, where required, you.

9. How long we keep your data

  • Subscription data — until you unsubscribe, plus a minimal record of the unsubscribe so we do not contact you again.
  • Technical and analytics data — up to 26 months, then deleted or aggregated so it no longer identifies you.
  • Correspondence — up to 24 months after the matter is closed.

Where we are required by law to keep information for longer, we keep it for that
period and then delete it.

10. Your rights

You have the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access — a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correction of data that is wrong or incomplete.
  • Erasure — deletion of your data where we no longer have grounds to keep it (the “right to be forgotten”).
  • Restriction — to have us pause processing while a dispute about accuracy or legitimate interests is resolved.
  • Portability — to receive the data you gave us in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, or have it sent to another controller.
  • Objection — to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and an absolute right to object to direct marketing at any time.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, where consent is the basis we rely on.
  • Automated decisions — we do not make decisions about you by purely automated means that produce a legal or similarly significant effect.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@scholarships.co.zw. We will not
charge you, and we will not treat you differently for asking. We may need to verify
your identity before we act, so that we do not disclose your data to someone else.

11. Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use strictly necessary
cookies, which keep the site working and secure and cannot be switched off;
analytics cookies, which tell us how the site is used;
and advertising cookies, which are set by our advertising partners to select and measure ads.
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly
necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working.

12. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please contact us
first at privacy@scholarships.co.zw so we can try to put it right.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory
authority. If you are in the European Economic Area, that is the authority in the
country where you live or work. If you are in Zimbabwe, you may also contact the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), which is the Data Protection Authority under the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07].

13. Children

This site is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect
their personal data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and
we will delete it.

14. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice as the service or the law changes. The date at the top
shows when it was last revised. Where a change materially affects your rights, we will
give you clear notice before it takes effect.
