African students should consider other programs such as MEXT scholarships, JICA programs, or ADB scholarships at institutions that accept African applicants.
The scholarship provides 144,000 JPY per month (approximately $950-1,000 USD depending on exchange rates). The amount can be adjusted if required. This is generally sufficient for modest living expenses in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, where APU is located, though students should budget carefully for initial setup costs and occasional travel.
Returning to your home country is a binding condition of the scholarship. The ADB-JSP requires scholars to return immediately after completing their degree to contribute to national development. Failure to comply may result in repayment obligations and future ineligibility for ADB programs. The scholarship specifically targets candidates with demonstrated commitment to home country development.
No. You must have at least two years of full-time work experience after obtaining your bachelor's degree at the time of application. Partial or anticipated experience does not satisfy this requirement. The employment certificates you submit must verify completed experience, not projected future employment.
The research source does not specify an application fee. You should verify current fee requirements directly through the official APU application portal when preparing your submission. Many Japanese university scholarship programs do charge nominal application fees, but this varies by institution and program.
The ADB-JSP awards over 300 scholarships annually across all participating institutions, with APU being one of multiple host universities. Competition is strong given the full funding package.
