What Is the Kectil Program?
The Kectil Program (Knowles Educational and Charitable Trust for International Leadership) is a flagship initiative of the Malmar Knowles Family Foundation. It is a merit-based, year-long online platform designed to bridge the gap between ambitious young minds and their readiness to lead. The program focuses on ethical leadership, social entrepreneurship, and grassroots social innovation.
Since its launch over 10 years ago, Kectil has built a network of more than 14,000 youth leaders across 100+ countries. The 2027 cohort continues this tradition of developing changemakers who transform their communities.

Who Can Apply
The 2027 Kectil Program is designed primarily for applicants aged 17–26 living in developing countries. This includes Zimbabwe and all SADC nations. The program explicitly welcomes passionate, motivated individuals who demonstrate leadership potential, innovation capacity, or changemaker qualities.

- Age: 17–26 (primary target); applicants outside this range are still welcome and reviewed individually
- Location: Must reside in a developing country
- Language: Proficiency in reading and writing English is required

- Commitment: Willingness to invest 2–3 hours per week and respect colleagues regardless of nationality, religion, or culture
What the Program Covers
The 2027 Kectil Program is completely free to all accepted applicants. Full funding comes from The Malmar Knowles Family Foundation. There is no tuition, registration fee, or hidden cost.
Your contribution is your dedication: hard work, active participation, networking with fellow Kectil Colleagues, compliance with The Kectil Code, and using the full year to expand your leadership capabilities.

- Certificate of Participation: For dedicated colleagues completing core requirements
Top performers may also become regional coordinators or receive direct mentorship from world-renowned industry leaders.

Application Requirements
The four-step application requires:
- Personal Information: Name, contact details, date of birth, gender, address, citizenship, ethnicity
- Education: Current level (from below high school through graduate school)
- Parent Information: City/region of residence, parents’ occupations
- Personal Essays: Detailed responses covering career goals, strengths/weaknesses, personal and community challenges, community service experience, leadership definition, role models, and program-specific questions
Additional requirements:
- Professional photo (JPEG, PNG, or WebP, max 4MB)
- Valid email address (must be confirmed)
- Phone number with country code
