What Is the World Bank Group Young Professionals Program?
The World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (YPP) is the institution’s premier leadership development initiative for highly talented individuals passionate about global development. Eligibility Requirements
The YPP maintains strict eligibility criteria. Ensure you meet all requirements before applying:
Education
Minimum graduate-level degree (Master’s or higher) in a relevant field, completed before the September start date.
Professional Experience
Two to six years of professional experience in the related work area as of September 1, 2026. For doctoral candidates, full-time doctoral research at an accredited institution may count toward this requirement, provided the degree is substantially complete with all written work submitted before the September start date.
Language Proficiency
Excellent command of spoken and written English is mandatory. Fluency in additional languages strengthens applications and is considered an advantage.
Employment Status
You cannot be a current World Bank Group employee at application (including term, open, short-term, or extended-term appointments). You must also not have close relatives working at the World Bank Group or a spouse in a direct or indirect supervisory relationship.
Age
There is no age requirement. Eligibility is based solely on professional experience, not age.

Required Documents

If shortlisted, you will be asked to provide contact information for two professional references. Doctoral candidates may also use appropriate academic references.
The Selection Process
The YPP selection is highly competitive, with approximately the top 10% of applicants advancing to assessment stages:
- Eligibility and Application Review: Full applicant list reviewed; top candidates selected
- Asynchronous Video Interview, Stream-Specific Assessment, and Virtual Job Try-out: Issued to advancing candidates
- Panel Interview: Approximately 45-50 minutes with technical experts, senior staff, and HR; conducted in-person in Washington DC, Nairobi, Paris, or Bangkok, or online
- Assessment Center: Collaborative case exercise (approximately 45 minutes) with group presentation, followed by written reflection (approximately 15 minutes)
- Final Decision: Background checks and offers
Attendance on assigned interview dates is mandatory. Limited accommodations for online participation may be made in exceptional circumstances.
