What Is the World Bank Group Young Professionals Program?
The World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (YPP) is the institution’s premier leadership development program for highly talented individuals passionate about international development. Program Structure and Duration
The YPP spans an initial two years, followed by a five-year contract renewal based on performance. The program includes:
- Headquarters Start: All participants begin in Washington, DC
- Three Mandatory Rotations: Each lasting 8 months, including one within your primary function, one cross-institutional rotation, and at least one in a country office
- Cross-Institutional Exposure: Work across the World Bank, IFC (International Finance Corporation), and MIGA (Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency)
- Tailored Training: Coaching, mentorship, and leadership development

Eligibility Requirements
The YPP has strict eligibility criteria. Applicants must meet all requirements:
- Education: Minimum graduate-level degree or higher in a relevant field, completed before the September start date
- Experience: 2 to 6 years of professional experience in the related work area. Full-time doctoral research may count toward experience if the degree is substantially complete with all written work submitted before the September start date
- Language: Excellent command of spoken and written English is mandatory. Additional language fluency is advantageous
- Employment Status: Cannot be a current World Bank Group employee (including term, open, short-term, or extended-term appointments)
- Conflict of Interest: No close relatives working at the World Bank Group, and no spouse in a direct or indirect supervisory relationship

The Selection Process
The YPP selection is highly competitive, with approximately the top 10% of applicants advancing to assessment stages:
- Eligibility and Application Review: Initial screening for completeness and basic qualifications
- Virtual Assessments: Asynchronous video interview, stream-specific assessment, and virtual job try-out
- Panel Interview: 45-50 minute technical interview with experts, senior staff, and HR
- Assessment Center: In-person collaborative case exercise (45 minutes) and written reflection (15 minutes) in Washington DC, Nairobi, Paris, or Bangkok
- Final Decision: Background check and offer issuance
Attendance on assigned interview dates is mandatory. Limited accommodations for online participation may be made in exceptional circumstances.
