Overview
The Think Big Scholarship is the University of Bristol’s flagship funding programme for international students. For 2027, the university has invested up to £5 million to help overseas students study at Bristol. The scheme covers both undergraduate and postgraduate taught degrees, with awards tiered to recognise different levels of achievement and need.
This scholarship is specifically designed for applicants with overseas fee status who have applied for eligible undergraduate or master’s courses. The scheme operates through a single application form that automatically considers you for all relevant awards you qualify for, including faculty-specific, alumni-funded, and external partner scholarships.

Specific points to address:
- Why Bristol specifically interests you beyond the scholarship
- How your academic background prepares you for your chosen course
- Career goals and how the degree advances them
- What you will contribute to the university community
- Any challenges you have overcome that demonstrate resilience

Why Bristol for African Students
For applicants from Zimbabwe and the SADC region, Bristol offers several advantages: the university has established research partnerships across Africa, particularly in health and development studies; the city has an active African student society; and the scholarship’s tiered structure means even the minimum £3,000 undergraduate or £6,500 postgraduate award significantly reduces the financial burden of UK study. The £26,000 postgraduate maximum can cover a substantial portion of tuition fees for many taught master’s programmes.
Bristol’s location in southwest England provides lower living costs than London while maintaining excellent transport links. The university’s career services offer specific support for international students seeking UK work experience or returning to home country employment markets.
